Daisy First Aid run paediatric first aid courses all over the UK – We would love you to get to know our fabulous trainers better.

We want you to see that our trainers are happy and friendly, definitely not stuffy or scary.

Our first aid trainers are super passionate about teaching parents, carers and children how to save a life and to give you confidence when dealing with an illness or injury.

Here is our very lovely and real life saving trainer Marie. Thanks to her first aid parent class, TV presenter Zoe Hardman knew just what to do when her baby daughter suffered a seizure just a week after attending Maries class!!

Helen Flanagan

Tell us about yourself?

I live in Northampton, and I cover Northampton, Daventry, Towcester, Brackley, Buckingham and Banbury (and everywhere in between!).

I am married and have 2 sons, who are 6 and 3. Before the little ones arrives, I was a nurse, working in intensive care. I really enjoyed it but I found the long hours hard to work around my family life.

What is your typical working day like?

Every day is completely different! I could be doing up to 3 parent classes a day or just the 1. I could be running a paediatric first aid course for a nursery or running a session for children. Or I could be catching up with emails and paperwork. It is very varied and flexible, I try to be able to do the school run as much as possible.

Who would be your dream person to train?

I’ve been lucky enough to train Helen Flanagan and Zoe Hardman. Both were lovely. I’d love to train Holly Willoughby though.

What question do you get asked the most in classes?

Can you break a bone whilst doing CPR?

What was the last real life first aid incident you had to deal with?

Having 2 active boys means there are a few injuries in our house, usually minor cuts, over the years we’ve had bangs to the head, asthma attacks, anaphylactic reactions, a broken arm, choking, high temperatures. One of the latest was my youngest trapping 3 of his fingers in his bedroom door, there wasn’t much blood but his fingers were bent slightly and he was screaming. I would have put money on them being broken but a trip to A&E and an x-ray showed they weren’t, luckily.

What was the one thing you wish you knew before becoming a parent?

That baby vests with envelope necks can be taken off by rolling down the body rather than over the head.

What is your number 1 first aid top tip?

Always have a first aid kit on you when you are out and about, you just never know when you might need it. I learnt this the hard way when my son fell over and cut his knee badly on a day out and ended up using a baby muslin and couldn’t get a plaster anywhere.
