I’m Jude, the local Daisy First Aid Trainer for North & North West London.

Here are 5 things about me…

Why I became a Daisy First Aid Trainer….

My daughter was born prematurely, and had her first month in hospital. All the parents with children in NCU had to learn CPR before they took their children home. I realised first hand the confidence it gave me, knowing what to do if an emergency happened outside the safety of the hospital.

I met a mum who’s child had been saved when she drowned, by her Father performing CPR. I was telling my friend how lucky that the Father knew First Aid and she told me about Daisy First Aid. It was a lightbulb moment that has given me such a rewarding and satisfying job combining both my work and personal experiences.

My background/own experience…

I had a long career with British Airways where I was an airport manager, this involved being a first responder as well as training the staff.

I am also involved with a charity Dreamflight which gives sick and disabled children an amazing 10 day trip to Florida. The parents of these children let us give their children a holiday of a lifetime and in return I hope we gave them a well deserved rest. I am in complete admiration of parents who care for these amazing children.

What I love about teaching…

I know first hand the worry and anxiety of being a parent, our classes give people the confidence to deal with emergencies in a relaxed informal way.

You walk into someone home a stranger and leave knowing all their First Aid stories as well as leaving them empowered with the knowledge and skills to look after their little one’s.

It always amazes me how much you can learn in 2 hours which can then save a life.

My proudest moment…

It’s got to be having my children. The tough start I had with my daughter made me realise how precious life is and bringing her home was one of my best days.

Something fun/interesting/ or important about me….

I have done lots of fundraising over the years and along with some other fantastic women walk 100km London to Brighton. It took 26 hours and involved lots of singing Abba songs, tears, bandaging blisters and the loss of some toenails… But we raised lots of money for some very special children, so it was all worth it!
