I’m the local Daisy First Aid Trainer for Guildford, Reigate, Horsham, Haywards Heath and Mid-Sussex areas

Here are 5 things about me…

Why I became a Daisy First Aid Trainer….

When my eldest daughter was born 5 years ago I had severe postnatal anxiety. I didn’t even know that was a thing let alone have it diagnosed (until much later on). When she was 4 months old I did a Daisy First Aid class (with our amazing trainer Ashley) which helped to put my mind at ease especially as we weren’t far off weaning.

I decided not to go back to my very demanding job at an agency in London once my maternity leave was over and I decided to completely retrain and join Daisy First Aid.

I can honestly say joining the Daisy family is the best decision I have ever made!

My background/own experience…

I have always worked in graphic design and marketing but having my children changed everything for me – for the better! I never saw myself as someone who could stand up in front of a group of people and teach but it turns out it’s easy if you’re passionate about what you’re talking about!

I have first hand experience of why learning first aid is so important; both my daughters have experienced severe choking. Thankfully, I knew what to do and was able to remain calm and act quickly.

What I love about teaching…

I absolutely love teaching my classes and it’s a privilege to know I can help people feel confident in the same way doing the class helped me when my baby was tiny.

As a mum of two I can really relate to how new and expectant parents are feeling. Historically, learning first aid has always been a bit scary and it is really important for me to make sure my classes aren’t scary but empowering and that people leave feeling confident. It’s a serious subject but we have fun and I’m lucky enough to have made some lovely friends through teaching my classes!

As a parent it’s inevitable that there will be some bumps and scrapes along the way, so as well as the really serious stuff, we cover the less serious but still really valuable and important information in our classes too.

I also love that I get to meet lots of babies in my classes – mine are a bit older now so I love that I can still get my baby fix!

My proudest moment…

I think my proudest moments have to be those occasions I have received emails from parents who have attended my class who have experienced an emergency with their child and, instead of panicking, they knew exactly what to do. Those parents are amazing for staying calm and knowing what to do and I am very proud to have contributed to that.

The outcome of an emergency involving a baby or child can be very different depending on what first aid steps are taken before medical help arrives. That’s why I’m so passionate that everyone who cares for a baby or child should learn first aid.

Something fun/interesting/ or important about me….

Something you might not know about me is that as well as being a Daisy trainer I am also the Social Media Manager for Daisy First Aid. I create all the content for our social channels which I love doing and feel very lucky to have been given the opportunity. It combines my past experience in design and marketing with my passion for all things baby and first aid perfectly!
