Hello, I’m Steph, the local Daisy First Aid Trainer for Falkirk

Here are 5 things about me…

Why I became a Daisy First Aid Trainer….

It was originally my sisters idea to become a Daisy First Aid Trainer. We were both wondering what to do with our careers and she thought this would be perfect for me. I agreed and the rest is history!

My background/own experience…

I was a staff nurse in the NHS for 10 years working in a variety of settings including ENT, MAXFAX, Surgical High Dependency, Admissions and Surgical Pre-Assessment.

I absolutely loved being a nurse but after having my two kids I made the decision to become a full time mum for a number of reasons.

As a nurse I have been trained in basic and advanced life support and find it really useful to have this background when teaching my own classes.

I also have 2 kids of my own – my daughter Elsie and son Bert who regularly keep my first aid skills up to scratch!

I also attended a Daisy First Aid class when I had my daughter over 6 years ago! Before I even had an inkling that I would eventually become a trainer myself!

What I love about teaching…

I love meeting new people all the time and giving them the confidence and skills to know what to do in an emergency situation.

Everyone is always so lovely and interested in all the topics. When people arrive at
the class they are often quite nervous and tentative but leave feeling empowered and reassured that they have learned life saving skills!

My proudest moment…

After having my two kids, setting up my own Daisy First Aid business comes in a very close runner up! I would never have imagined myself as a business owner but I am really enjoying it.

I was really proud of myself doing a first aid class for 18 people recently. I would never have thought I would have had the confidence to speak to and teach such a large class but once I got started I just felt so at ease.

I know I’m doing something I love and I know how much it benefits everyone in the class. I also just recently got a round of applause for a class I did so I was pretty pleased about that!

Something fun/interesting/ or important about me….

I have choked 3 times in my life – luckily all times someone knew what to do! Now I am a little older and much more sensible and careful when eating!!
I once ran (slowly jogged) the Edinburgh marathon in 4hours 40mins (albeit in 2011!).
I have a gorgeous wee Frenchie called Frank who lets my kids climb all over him and never bats an eyelid!
