Hello, I’m Sarah the local Daisy First Aid Trainer for a Cumbria, West Northumberland & South West Scotland

Here are 5 things about me…

Why I became a Daisy First Aid Trainer….

After I had my son I worked as a training professional and delivered first aid at work courses to the corporate market, and I wondered as a new parent why did I not know this?

Then I had my daughter and it was the right time for me to move away from corporate training so I bought a franchise which was driven by the fact I simply wanted to share first aid skills with parents & carers.

I have been a franchisee now for over 4 years and I love teaching new parents. I work flexibly around my 2 children who are 8 & 5 years old and I’m really lucky to have met so many lovely people that I train and return again to do a class when children are older or their certificates expire.

My background/own experience…

I started teaching first aid in 2013 and have been a Daisy First Aid Trainer since 2016, specialising in Paediatric First Aid but I’ve also branched out to deliver other first aid courses too.

Most of my first aid experience has happened as a Mum at home with the kids or with my nephews – I’ve dealt with choking, sweets up noses, burns, bumps, eye injuries and plenty of cuts and grazes.

There was an incident last Summer when a young boy local to us had come off his bike and we stopped to help him, he had a bad break to his wrist. We got him home and his Mum took him to hospital, he made a full recovery.

First Aid knowledge helps me to stay calm and act, and it’s also handy to have my first aid kit to hand with stickers in which always helps to save the day!

What I love about teaching…

The thing I love most about teaching is seeing how relieved and relaxed parents are at the end of the class when they have all the knowledge and have enjoyed the session.

Parenting can be daunting at the best of time, let alone when there has been an accident. My hope is that parents leave feeling that they can enjoy time with their children instead of worrying ‘what if’.

I tend to leave my classes feeling a real buzz knowing that I’ve helped people feel confident and assured.

Oh, and I love a baby cuddle too in classes- get my fix of a tiny squeeze when Mummy or Daddy practice techniques. Obviously – pre Covid world…

My proudest moment…

The absolute proudest moment is to know that my training has saved lives. Those parents are amazing for staying calm in an emergency and acting quickly. I am very proud to have contributed to that.

It is always rewarding to receive feedback from classes and hear stories about when parents have used the skills I have taught them – take a look at the reviews on my page to see what people think?

Something funny about me…

Hard one to think of… this always makes me smile when I think about it…I hate heights (which means I won’t even venture into the loft!) but I done a bungee jump whilst I was travelling in Australia! I then booked to do a tandem skydive when I got to New Zealand with my new found courage only for it to be cancelled twice!

That was perhaps a sign for me not to do it?!

What I offer & where…

I run Daisy First Aid in a wide ranging area which covers from Dumfries in South West Scotland and as far south as Kendal in Cumbria plus from Carlisle in the West to Hexham, Ryton and Consett in Northumberland, and many more in between!!

I offer 2-hour parent classes in person and live via Zoom, e-learning courses, children’s first aid workshops, and Paediatric first aid for teachers, nursery staff, nannies and child-minders.
